The Eremites' Dairy
details
For the project “Generaties Lijmen” from Museum Dr. Guislain, I created three paintings and a sculpture based on collages send in by participants. The participants, people with mental heath issues who had grown lonely during the COVID-lockdown, made these collages out of sketches I made during the lockdown myself.
The resulting collages were then reworked into large-scale paintings and a sculpture. As I had no idea or insight into the world of the participants, or the world they tried to capture in their collages, I created my own set of references that were processed in the paintings. By doing so, my own meaning of our life is merged with theirs to create a universe where we can come together, even if we are apart. They speak on a situation that is unknown, isolated, yet where we become one.
