Aqua Alta/Bacchanalia

details

A trip to the Venice Biennale, and my encounter with the city, gave me the inspiration for the work “Aqua Alta/Bacchanalia”.

Aqua alta, or high water, gave me the sensation of freedom, of a crazy alternative reality where we could dance all night in the rising water of the aqua-blue lagoon, to liberate our minds from our social prison.

I missed the one aqua alta we experienced almost completely because I was asleep, only hearing the sirens that announced it. I heard stories about the even though.

I was struck by the simple beauty and light of the Belgian pavilion in the Giardini, and how well it related to the water that I would never touch.

What if a performance took place in the water of the pavilion?
